Project goals

The goal was to develop individual modules for Tegris and to integrate them into the existing structure while meeting the high demands of medical software development. Tegris centrally manages and controls numerous devices and systems, which relieves operating room personnel and thus increases the concentration on patient care. Other benefits include maximising the utilisation of the operating theatre and promoting a safer working environment.  

Challenges 

  • Integration of VOIP telephone conferencing systems from various manufacturers (Cisco and Polycom). 
  • Implementation of Telnet clients to use the text-based protocol developed by Cisco and Polycom. 
  • Integration of proprietary technical equipment (OP lights and cameras). 
  • Separation of hardware-dependent structures for risk reduction. 
  • The main application only acts as a client of the external application.

Solution 

  • SABO participated in the following development phases: requirement specifications, analysis & design, implementation.  
  • The development was carried out according to EN IEC 62304, with almost 100% UT coverage.  
  • SABO is responsible for the development of entire modules in full vertical scope - from the integration of external hardware and software to the integration of the software into the network.  
  • The developed modules are the operating light control and the video conferencing system.

Results

Tegris centrally manages and controls the entire operating room via one system, which relieves the staff and thus enables better patient care. Tegris can be adapted to the specific requirements of any operating theatre. One of the components developed by SABO is the video conferencing module. It allows for expert intervention and secure transmission of images and videos inside and outside the hospital. All image and video sources are flexibly routed and optimize the workflow in the operating room. SABO has worked on a broad portfolio for Tegris - development of software, integration of external hardware and UI design - and thus demonstrated comprehensive development competence.
