Project Goal

With the HWP (Human Work Planning) system, the Volkswagen Group is setting new standards in digital production planning. The goal is an intelligent, group-wide platform that digitally maps the entire production cycle – from the initial idea to the finished vehicle.

  • People-centered: Designing ergonomic and efficient work systems.
  • Standardization: Harmonization of planning methods across all brands.
  • Efficiency: Precise calculation of personnel requirements, material flow, and time costs.
  • Simulation: Comparison of different planning scenarios for optimal results.

Challenges

Transforming a legacy IT landscape into a global standard is a monumental task. The goal was to replace existing siloed solutions with a high-performance, modern architecture.

This required uniting two worlds: strict adherence to group-wide standards while maintaining flexibility for brand-specific nuances. The system’s immense complexity also demanded a radical improvement in data consistency and seamless coordination among hundreds of stakeholders.

Solution

Since 2017, SABO Mobile IT has supported the Volkswagen Group as a strategic partner in development, integration, and quality assurance. Our experts work directly on the core product as well as on specialized modules (e.g., LAUT, apOTS).

  • Visual planning: Use of 2D and 3D tools for the spatial placement of tools and materials.
  • AI Power: Utilization of our AI system “Project Booster” (SenseDrive.ai) for efficient analysis of requirements and faster onboarding of new team members.
  • End-to-End Quality: Provision of a central testing team for automated quality assurance across all system boundaries.
  • Agile Implementation: Management according to the Scalable Agile Framework (SAFe) for maximum transparency and speed.

Technology

Future-proofing through state-of-the-art IT standards: The HWP platform relies on a modular microservices architecture. This not only guarantees maximum scalability but also enables independent deployments and easy maintenance. The modules communicate seamlessly with each other via standardized APIs, while modern frameworks such as Cypress ensure maximum stability for automated end-to-end testing
